Challenges and response of the democratic republic
The enactment of the Constitution of India, the Supreme Law of the country, on 26 January 1950, is commemorated every year as Republic Day. While India gained independence on 15 Aug 1947, it officially became a republic on 26 Jan 1950, which was chosen to honour the declaration of Purna Swaraj (Total Independence) made by the Indian National Congress in 1930.
